2018-19 Women's Basketball Preview

New head coach Bobby Verdun takes over in 2018 and inherits a team that reached the quarterfinal round of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tournament last year. Salem State was 9-17 overall in 2017-18 and 5-7 in the MASCAC.

2018-2019 Outlook

 "Our program has endured an inordinate amount of change and unrest over the last several years. To that end, our first goal is to establish stability, continuity, and create a culture of consistency for our student-athletes so they can comfortably be engaged in the process of improvement," said Coach Bobby Verdun.

Key Players

2017-18 All MASCAC First Team -- Senior Kia Fernandes (Wareham, Mass.) averaged 15.3 ppg. 10.1 rpg. and 2.3 bpg. last season.

Brianna Rodriguez (Salem, Mass.) is entering her Junior season after averaging 7.2 ppg 3.9 rpg and 3.4 apg, 3.0 stl.

Newcomers

The Vikings will have three freshmen joining the team this season including Andrea Schiavone (Woburn, Mass.), Isabelle Ouimette (New Market, Md.), and Irianis Delgado (Lynn, Mass.).

Coach's Take

"Ultimately, I'm looking forward to working with an exceptional coaching staff and talented players on a daily basis and bring something to the city of Salem it hasn't experienced from this program in quite a while. I'm excited to fill the gym and have our players compete like hell every day."

First Game

Salem State will start their season on the road against Rhode Island College on November 10th at 1:00 p.m.
