Vikings Split Twin Bill in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Salem State softball traveled to Boston, Massachusetts this afternoon to take on the Rams of Suffolk University for a non-conference doubleheader. Four home runs spearheaded the Rams to a 9-1 victory in game one before the Vikings took the 11-8 victory over the Rams in game two, bringing their record to 8-8 on the season.

Game One

  • In the top of the second, a single down the right field line from Emily Henning (Grafton, Mass.) landed her on first base before a fielder's choice and two errors on the Rams' behalf brought her home for the first run of the game.
  • The Rams answered in the home half of the second with back-to-back shots over the center field fence to take the 2-1 lead. Another runner would cross the plate later in the inning before Ella Turnbull (Murrieta, Calif.) stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded to record the Rams' third homer of the inning, giving her squad the 7-1 tilt.
  • Another Rams' homer in the bottom of the fourth would bring home two more runs, giving them the 9-1 edge after four innings. The Rams would then hold the Vikings to one hit before leaving two runners on base to secure the 9-1 victory after five innings.

Game Two

  • The Vikings were able to take an early 2-0 lead after one inning before doubling their lead (4-0) an inning later when Hailey Ano's (Pittsfield, Mass.) bunt brought a runner home. Then, Ano herself would score thanks to a single up the middle from Gaona.
  • Paige Souza started the third with a solo shot over the left field fence before a Dawn Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) double brought two Vikings around to make it a 7-0 game in their favor.
  • The Rams started to chip away in the bottom third inning after four hits brought around three runs to make it a 7-3 game.
  • The Vikings used another three-run inning in the sixth to further distance themselves before taking the eventual 11-8 victory over the Rams.

Noteworthy

  • Perrotti and Henning have both now recorded at least one hit in seven of their last eight games.
  • Souza's home run in game two marks the first of the freshman's career in blue and orange.
  • Hailey Langenfeld (Hardyston, N.J.) recorded her first win of the season in the Vikings' game two victory.

The Vikings are back at home this Thursday, April 4 when they welcome the Lasers from Lasell University for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m..
