Bears Blank Vikings 9-0

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, Mass. -- Bridgewater State defeated Salem State, 9-0 in a Little East conference match at the Manchester Tennis Club on Wednesday evening. The Bears improve to 5-4 and remain unbeaten in the LEC at 4-0, while the Vikings go to 5-6 and 3-3.

before the match, Salem State honored senior Kevin Merino-Rivas (Billerica, Mass.) for his dedication and commitment to the tennis program. 

 Cory Cherico / Mark Wood  had their five-match unbeaten streak end at first doubles, losing 8-2 to Adam Beatrice / Tom Ayson. Robby Cooney / Matthew Krampf took second doubles, 8-5 over Quentin Wilkins / Kevin Merino-Rivas. Bridgewater State completed the sweep as Ryan Hebert / Filippo Mucci defeated Josh Gruber / Michael Muttiah, 8-2 at third doubles.

Wilkins lost for the first time in six matches as Robby Cooney earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at first singles. Beatrice beat Cherico, 6-2, 6-2 at second singles and Ayson topped Wood, 6-2, 7-6 at third singles as the Bears won all six singles matches in straight sets.
