WENHAM, Mass. -- Salem State battled a tough Gordon squad to within a point of victory, before losing 5-4 on Monday afternoon at the Brigham Complex. The Fighting Scots win their first match of the year to improve to 1-4. The vikings lose their spring opener and go to 0-2.

Grant Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) picked up a win at second singles for Salem State, winning 6-4, 6-3. Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) won a 6-3, 6-2 at second singles while Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory at third singles and teamed with Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) for an 8-4 decision at second doubles. 

Ezekiel Hall (Sugarland, Texas) defeated Muttiah 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and along with Mark Noschese (Wayne, N.J.) beat Bazile and Bellino at first doubles.
