Vikings Honor Seniors in Season Finale

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State men's lacrosse welcomed the Wolves from Western Connecticut State University to Alumni Field today for Senior Day. Although the Vikings outscored the Wolves by three goals in the second half, Western Connecticut's' 20-goal opening half set them up for the 25-9 Little East Conference (LEC) victory.

The Wolves saw production from 15 different players, while six of those players found the back of the net multiple times. Cody Suhr (Holbrook, N.Y.) led the way with four goals and one helper, while Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) and Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) solidified hat tricks with McMahon adding two assists in the victory.

For the Vikings, Timothy Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) netted a game-high five goals while Connor Vittands (Gloucester, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and one helper in the effort. In net, Ryan Cohen (Bedford, Mass.) made 17 saves.

How it Happened

  • Jon Russack-Baker (Groton, Conn.) won the opening faceoff and took it straight to net to score the first goal of the game in just five seconds. From there, the Wolves would not look back, rattling off 11 unanswered goals to take the commanding 12-0 lead after one quarter.
  • The Wolves would tack on another eight goals in the second frame, with Eddings breaking up the scoring at the 9:16 mark to notch the Vikings first goal of the game.
  • Coming out of the break the Vikings were able to string together three unanswered goals to make it a 20-4 game, but Jack Murphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) answered with a pair of goals in a span of 30 seconds to further distance his squad (22-4).
  • The Wolves looked to claim a 20-goal lead, but Mike Zarro (Peabody, Mass.) would deny their chance after taking the ball from end to end before finding the back of the net to make it a 24-6 game with 10:31 to play. The Vikings would outscore the Wolves 3-1 in the final ten minutes before the Wolves would take the 25-9 victory.

Noteworthy

  • Eddings five-goal performance is his third of the year and brought his season total to 37 goals, which is a team-high.
  • Before this afternoon's game the Vikings honored their four seniors: Nathaniel Mullins (Marblehead, Mass.), Timothy Eddings, Mike Zarro, and Kyle Tammaro (Saugus, Mass.).
