Spartans Conquer Vikings, 16-5

CASTLETON, Vt. – Salem State men's lacrosse made the trek to Vermont this afternoon to take on the Spartans of Vermont State Castleton for a Little East Conference (LEC) bout. The Spartans were able to outscore the Vikings by eight goals in the first half to guide them to the 16-5 victory, dropping Salem to 4-7 on the season and 0-4 in LEC play.   

Coleman Ballweg (Peabody, Mass.), Connor Vittands (Gloucester, Mass.), Cameron Collins (Peabody, Mass.), Timothy Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.), and Matthew Lindstrom (Peabody, Mass.) all recorded goals in the Vikings' effort with Ballweg adding a helper on the afternoon.

On the other side, Cam Frankenhoff (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Casey Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) both found the back of the net four times, while dishing out two and three assists, respectively.  

How It Happened

  • With Meczywor being responsible for three goals, the Spartans jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 6:42 to play in the opening stanza. Two minutes later, Salem made it a three-goal game after Ballweg found Collins for the Vikings' first goal.
  • Cam and Carter Frankenhoff (Essex Junction, Vt.) found the back of the net three and two times, respectively, in the second quarter to spearhead the Spartans to a 9-1 edge to head into the break.  
  • The Spartans poured in five goals in the third frame before Salem notched a pair of goals in the closing minute to make it a 14-3 game to head into the final 15 minutes of action.
  • Both teams tacked on two more goals in the final stanza before the Spartans solidified their 16-5 LEC victory.

Noteworthy

  • With their one-goal performances, Vittands and Eddings have now recorded at least one goal or one assist in all 10 of their appearances on the season.  

The Vikings are back at home this Tuesday, April 9 when they welcome the Huskies from the University of Southern Maine for a 4:00 p.m. start.
