Mass Maritime Upends Salem State

BUZZARD BAY, Mass.- Quinn Mucha (Barnstable, Mass.) scored five times and had an assist to give Mass Maritime a 20-7 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over Salem State on Wednesday night at Clean Harbor Stadium. The Buccaneers boost their record to 7-4, 3-1 while the Vikings slip to 4-6, 0-3.

How Did It Happen?

  • During the opening minutes of the first period, the Buccaneers dominated the Vikings' zone. In a span of just a minute and 48 seconds, the Buccaneers managed to score twice. The first goal was scored by Daniel Kane (Marshfield, Mass.). Shortly after, Carson Percival (Old Saybrook, Ct.) scored the second goal from the right side, with Kane providing the assist.
  • During the early minutes of the second period, there was an intense exchange between both teams that lasted for a minute and six seconds. In the midst of this exchange, Mass. Maritime managed to score twice, while the Vikings' Connor Vittands (Gloucester, Mass.) also made a successful shot into the net. The scoreboard reflected that the Vikings were down by three, with the score standing at 5-2.
  • The Buccaneers managed to put two more goals on the board, but the Salem State Vikings did not give up easily. Cameron Collins (Peabody, Mass.) sprang towards the net and scored their third goal at the 3:51 mark, putting the team back in the game. The Vikings did not stop there and managed to score another goal when Collins assisted Timothy Eddings (Endicott, NY) from the right side of the net, bringing the deficit down to three by the score of 7-4 at the 2:23 mark. Eddings was quickly flirting with his second goal of the game, but unfortunately, the ball couldn't find the net.
  • Mass Maritime scored four different times in a span of two minutes and 56 seconds which was highlighted by Mucha scoring twice during the Buccaneers run as Salem State found themselves trailing by seven with the score at 11-4.
  • Vittands managed to score his second goal of the game. However, four different players from the Buccaneers scored to give them a commanding ten-point lead. The score was now 15-5, heading into the final period of regulation.
  • Mass Maritime scored four goals in just two minutes and 26 seconds, including two while they had a man up. The run ended with a hat trick by Vittands, bringing the score to 19-6. Both teams added one more goal oto the scoreboard to end the night.

Behind The Numbers?

  • In the first half of the game, the trio of Mucha, Kane, and Braeden Kosiewicz (Maddison, Ct.) showcased their phenomenal skills and contributed to six of Mass. Maritime's seven goals. Each of them scored two goals. Kane, also led with four ground balls, while Jack O'Donnell demonstrated his defensive skills with two caused turnovers. The Buccaneers goalkeeper, Ronnan Kearney (Hanover, Mass.), had two saves that kept the opponents from scoring.
  • During the first half of the game, the Vikings managed to score four goals, thanks to the efforts of Vittands, Collins, Eddings, and Cabral. Meanwhile, Ryan Cohen (Bedford, Mass.) proved to be an asset to the team's defense with 11 saves.
  • During the course of the game, Mucha successfully scored a total of five goals. Meanwhile, Andy Aguado-Scheyer  (Bellevue, Wa.) collected seven groundballs, exhibiting his impressive defensive abilities. Jack O'Donnell (Marshfield, Mass.) caused four turnovers. Kearney saved four shots throughout the game in the win.   
  • Collins, led the charge with six ground balls. Additionally, Eddings displayed remarkable defensive capabilities by causing three turnovers throughout the match. Collins saved 17 shots for Salem State.

What's Next?

  • Salem State will be looking to bounce back on Saturday April 6 as they head to Vermont to face off against Vermont Castleton State for a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
