Gordon Hands Salem State First Loss

SALEM, Mass. - Jason Dantona (Rockville Centre, NY) scored six goals and had an assist to electrify the Gordon Fighting Scots to a 15-6 win over the Salem State Vikings on Wednesday night at Alumni Field. Dantona came out of the game strong scoring three goals in the first quarter. The Fighting Scots pick up their first win of the season and go to 1-3. Salem State drops to a record of 1-1 on the year.

Preston Dougherty (Upton, Mass.) (2), Nick Quirk (Fitchburg, Mass.) (2), Danny Antonellis (Westfield, Mass.) (1), Zach Rufo (Malden, Mass.) (1) all for Salem State.

The Fighting Scots scored three straight goals in the first quarter, two of them coming from Dantona to lead 3-0 with 6:49 left.  

Dougherty scored a goal to put the Vikings on the board as they were behind 3-1. Dougherty scored again, curling around the defender and shooting into the back of the net as Gordon still led 3-2 with 3:50 remaining in the first quarter. Dantona scored his third goal in the first quarter with a forceful shot in the top-left corner to make it 4-2.

At the half, Gordon was in front of Salem State leading 7-3.

Nick Quirk scored the first goal of the third quarter and the Vikings trailed 7-4 in the first 0:22 of the second half. After Quirk's goal, the Fighting Scots scored five consecutive goals to pull away.

Jay Gallipo (Dover, NH) earned the win (1-3) after allowing six goals and saving 14 shots. Jack Ganter (Lynnfield, Mass.) took the loss (1-1) after allowing 14 goals while saving 17 shots. Jonathan Crutchfield (Boylston, Mass.) finished the game in goal, allowing one score with five saves.
