Vikings Dominate Gordon, 5-0

WENHAM, Mass. – Salem State field hockey traveled to Wenham, Massachusetts to take on the Fighting Scots of Gordon College for a non-conference bout. After sixty minutes of play, the Vikings took the 5-0 victory over their Northshore foe to improve to 4-6 on the season.

The first quarter was all Salem as the Vikings held possession for a majority of the stanza, but Sophea Zsakoda (Lansdale,Pa.) denied the Vikings any chance at taking an early lead as she turned away four shots to send the game to the second quarter scoreless.   

Just four minutes into the second, the Vikings were finally able to capitalize after Melanie Mason (Beverly, Mass.) notched the game's first goal to give Salem the 1-0 tilt. Zsakoda would turn away the next two shots faced before Mikayla Mason (Beverly, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals to close out the half and send Salem into the break with the 3-0 lead.

Just two minutes into the third Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) joined in on the fun, as she found the back of the net to extend the lead for her team. After that, Zsakoda would turn away four Viking shots to keep the Scots deficit at four. In the forty-fourth minute of the game Gordon would attempt their first shot of the night, but Izzy Mosley (Middleborough, Mass.) denied their chance at getting on the board.

In the final fifteen minutes, Mikayla Mason would notch her first hat trick of the season as she added one more to the Viking's tally to help solidify their decisive 5-0 non-conference victory.
