Owls Blank Vikings, 5-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Salem State field hockey traveled to Westfield, Massachusetts tonight to take on the Owls of Westfield State University. After sixty minutes of action, the Vikings fell to the Owls by a score of 5-0, to drop to 2-1 in conference action.

Nine minutes into the game, Bre Foley (South Hadley, Mass.) notched the first goal to give the Owls the 1-0 edge in the opening quarter.  The Vikings looked like they were going to even the score before the quarter ended but a defensive save thwarted their chances at tying the game before the buzzer sounded.

Westfield built on their lead one minute into the second stanza after Sarah Richard (Templeton, Mass.) converted a pass from Madison Ouelltte (Uxbridge, Mass.) to give their team the 2-0 tilt. The Owls would tack one more onto their total to give them the 3-0 lead over the Vikings heading into the break.

The third quarter was all Owls as they attempted four shots, landing one, while holding Salem to no shot attempts to enter the final fifteen minutes with the commanding 4-0 advantage. Westfield State would add another goal for good measure to carry them to the 5-0 shutout over Salem State.
