Vikings Fall in Non-Conference Matchup

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salem State Field Hockey found themselves on the road again as they traveled to Newport, Rhode Island to take on the Seahawks of Salve Regina University in a non-conference matchup. Izzy Mosley (Middleborough, Mass.) turned away 11 shots for the Vikings, but it would not be enough as Salve would take the 3-0 victory over Salem.

Six minutes into the opening stanza Bella Gannon (West Yarmouth, Mass.) found teammate, Georgia Costello (North Easton, Mass.), for the first goal of the game to give the Seahawks the slight 1-0 lead. Salve looked to extend their lead, but Mosley closed out the first stanza with four saves to keep her team within striking distance. Mosley would keep her squad in the game throughout the second period as well, turning away two shots, to send the game into the half with Salve holding the 1-0 lead.

Eight minutes into the second half the Seahawks found themselves back in the scoring column as Julia Decker (Newton, N.J.) found the back of the net to give her team the two-goal cushion which would hold going into the final fifteen minutes of action.

In the closing two minutes, Shannon Kennedy (Royersford, Pa.) added one more for good measure to solidify Salves 3-0 victory over Salem this afternoon.
