Worcester State Gets Past Salem State in Little East Opener

Salem, Mass. – Molly Cutting's (Auburn, Mass.) third period goal proved to be the difference as Worcester State defeated Salem State 1-0 in the Little East opener for both squads on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Lancers improve to 2-1, 1-0 while the Vikings dip to 0-2, 0-1.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half tie. Worcester State held a distinct 14-3 advantage in shots, with the Lancers' Grace Adams taking a team-high four attempts, but Salem State goalie Kai Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) made 12 first half saves to keep the game tied.

The Lancers continued to pressure the Vikings' defense in the third, as Worcester State took six corners in the third quarter alone. After back-to-back corner attempts, Worcester State kept possession as Adams set up Cutting for a one-timer at the 31:50 mark.

Salem State managed just three shots after halftime and was unable to find the equalizer as Worcester State goalie Madison Ferrara (Somerset, Mass.) stopped all six shots in the win. Hollingsworth made 18 saves in goal for the Vikings.
