BRIDGEWATER, Mass.- Brock Pare (Lowell, Mass.) pitched six innings giving up one earned run while Owen Duggan (Billerica, Mass.), Nolan Currier (Maynard, Mass.) combined for four runs batted in to give Salem State a 5-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. Due to weather, the second game of the afternoon was postponed, sending the Vikings home with a 10-7 overall record and 3-2 MASCAC record while the Bears dropped to 9-8, 3-2.

How It Happened:

  • Salem State started a two-out rally in the first when three Vikings found their way on base before Nolan Currier's (Maynard, Mass.) opposite field base hit brought around the first run of the game.
  • In the home half of the second, the Bears managed to tie the game at one thanks to a base hit to left field by Riley Thornell (Wareham, Mass.).
  • The bats of Duggan, Currier, and Aidan Lynch (North Andover, Mass.) brought three runs around in the top of the fifth to reclaim the Vikings' lead, 4-1.
  • Aggressive base running from Mark Smith (East Haven, Conn.)  added a tally to the Vikings total in the sixth frame, which would be enough for the Vikings to take the 5-1 victory an inning and a half later.

Noteworthy

  • Pare earned the victory on the first game of the doubleheader pitching six innings giving up one earned run and four hits. Boucher pitched the final inning giving up two hits.
  • Trey Yesu (Monson, Mass.) recorded his second loss of the season as he is now 2-2 in the season pitching 4.1 inning giving up eleven hits and four earned runs.
  • Duggan and Currier each recorded two hits and two RBIs in the victory.
  • Due to weather, game two of the doubleheader was postponed.
