SALEM, Mass.- Jake Prisco (Bridgewater, Mass.) went 1 for 4 with two runs batted in to give Wentworth Institute of Technology a 6-4 victory over Salem State on Tuesday afternoon at The Central Campus Baseball Field. The Leopards improve to 14-6 while the Vikings are now 9-5.

Pitchers of Record

Wentworth starting pitcher Alec Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) secured his third win of the season, improving his record to 3-1. Peruzzi pitched admirably for five innings, allowing only eight hits and two earned runs. For the Vikings pitcher Jake Usenia (Uxbridge, Mass.), recorded his first loss of the season bringing his record to 1-1. Usenia pitched four innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs.  Brandon Farinas (Lewiston, Maine.) recorded his first save of the year pitching four innings giving up two hits and a run.

How Did It Happen

  • Matthew Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) started the scoring in the first inning with a base hit to center field, and Wentworth scored two more runs in the inning, including Jake Prisco's (Bridgewater, Mass.) double to left center field.
  • Devon Lapierre (Dover, N.H.)robbed Nolan Currier (Maynard, Mass.) of a double, setting the tone for the rest of the inning. Aidan Lynch (North Andover, Mass.) and Antonio Belgrove (Stamford, Conn.) managed to reach base on walks, putting the pressure on the pitcher, Peruzzi. However, Peruzzi retired the next two hitters bringing the inning to a close without further damage.
  • Wentworth had one out and two runners on base when Lapierre hit a single towards the shortstop, allowing another run to score. This brought the score to 4-0 in favor of Wentworth. However, the Vikings managed to escape the inning by allowing just one run as Peruzzi hit a groundball for a double play which ended the inning.
  • The Vikings managed to score three runs, in the fourth inning bringing them closer to Wentworth's lead. Salem State had runners on first and third base.  Devin Fuegen (Walcott, Conn.) was able to score the first run for his team thanks to an error made by Wentworth's left fielder. This gave Salem State the momentum to score two more runs in the same inning. However, the Viking rally came to an end when Mark Smith (East Haven, Con.)  grounded out for a double play with the bases loaded, thus allowing Wentworth to end the inning with a one-run ahead.
  • The Leopards scratched two runs combined between the sixth and seventh innings and the Vikings added one more in the bottom of the ninth when Belgrove singled to left field.
