Bio

McKenna lettered in both varsity basketball and baseball during each of his four years at Salem State. Captain of the basketball team his senior year, he was starter on three New England State College Championship teams (1954, 1955 and 1956), and was named to the New England College Basketball All Star team twice. Dean Lawrence Lowrey and James Twohig, also Salem State Hall of Fame members, coached McKenna during his career.

 

A Guidance Counselor at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, he coached high school basketball for twenty-nine years wining numerous championships and coaching awards. His career coaching record is 391 victories and 161 losses. McKenna served as a member of the College’s Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1984; McKenna resides in Salem with his wife, Elaine. They have five children – Robert, Susan ’78, Kathy, Michael and William.
