Bio

Whelan was a member of the 1964 New England championship basketball team. Team co-captain as a senior, he won most Valuable Player honors during his freshman and senior years. Whelan, a prolific scorer passed the 1,000 point plateau during his four year career.

A self-employed insurance broker, Whelan continues his interest in sports as an active member of the Quincy YMCA where he competes in the “Old-Timers” Handball League. A Somerville native, Whelan and his wife Janet (Holland) make their home in Hingham, Massachusetts with their son, Michael.
