Women's Lacrosse Lose Season Opener at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Salem State University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Salem State would start the game by controlling the majority of the offensive momentum, outshooting Elms 11-3. Sophomore goaltender Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) would make three saves in the quarter, but the Vikings would find the back of the net three times to take a 3-0 lead. The second quarter would once again see SSU continue their offensive showing by adding eight goals to their lead. However, the Blazers would not be shut down, after senior midfielder/attack Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) would score the first goal of the contest late in the quarter, but the Vikings would go into the halftime break with a 11-1 lead.

The third quarter would see Elms score in the opening minute of the half, after junior attack/midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.) would score her first goal of the season. Salem State would answer with two more goals, but LaRocque would add two more saves during the quarter. The fourth quarter would see the Vikings score two more goals, but the Blazers would control the quarter offensive after two more goals by Frankwicz, both assisted by Cronin, and two additional unassisted goals by Cornin to bring the final score to 15-6, with Salem State walking away with the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Cronin would score three goals on seven shots and added seven draw controls, two assists, and a ground ball to her season totals.

  • Frankwicz scored three goals on four shots, with two ground balls and a draw control.

  • LaRocque would tie a career high seven saves after facing 22 shots.

  • Sophomore midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) would take two shots and a draw control.

  • First year midfielder Ali Sullivan (Chicopee, Mass.) would recover one ground ball.

  • Junior attack Katherine Ingram (Chicopee, Mass.) and first year attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) would each take a shot in the game.

UP NEXT: The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team will host to Regis College for thier home opner and conference opener on Saturday, March 8th at 1 pm.
