Falcons Double Up Vikings In MASCAC Action

Imala nets one goal and one assist for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team collected a 4-2 victory over the Vikings of Salem State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Salem State opened the scoring 9:28 into the first period as sophomore Chris Dowd (Danville, NH) settled a feed from freshmen Carson James (Falmouth, MA) and Ryan Meaghan (Boston, MA) and found the back of the net for his fifth tally on the season for the 1-0 edge. Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 with 23 seconds remaining when junior Toivo Kramer (New York, NY) slipped a shot inside the near post for his third score of the 2023-24 campaign off an assist from graduate student Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, QUE).

The Green and Gold grabbed the lead 2:56 into the middle stanza with sophomore Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, MA) ripped a shot into the lower left corner for his second marker of the year with assists from freshman Michael Imala (Oak Lawn, IL) and junior Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA) for the 2-1 advantage.

The Falcons upped the lead to 3-1 two minutes later when newcomer Imala received a pass from freshman Isaiah McKinney (Nashua, NH) and Rennick and proceeded to redirect a shot into the upper left corner for his sixth goal of the season. The Vikings answered at the 17:29 mark as senior Erik Larsson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) gathered a feed from junior Luke Day (Ottsville, PA) and notched his sixth goal of the season to make the score 3-2 going into the third period.

The Green and Gold secured the victory with 24 seconds left in regulation when junior Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, MA) buried a shot into an empty net off an assist from Kramer for his second goal on the year, resulting in the 4-2 final.
