Lasell Posts 3-0 Victory Over Salem State

NEWTON, Mass. -- Lasell University secured a 3-0 (25-6, 25-18, 25-11) victory over Salem State on Thursday night at Lasell Athletic Center. The Lasers improved their record to 20-4, while the Vikings slipped to 7-9. 

Kailey Roche (Billerica, Mass.) contributed eight digs, while Celia Carbone (Lynnfield, Mass.) provided five assists. For Lasell, McKenna McCool (Loomis, Calif.) and Victoria Pariseault (Exeter, RI) led the team, averaging nine points each. Maddie Caro (Chula Vista, Calif) chipped in with six digs, and McCool and Camila Lopez (Berquisimeto, Venezuela) both had four service aces. Pariseault also stood out with eight kills during the game. 

Set One  

The Lasers dominated from the start highlighted by a 14-3 run against the Vikings. McCool served six straight points during the run. Lasell finished the set strongly by scoring nine straight points, with eight points coming off the serve of Saige Cambonega-Meyers (Springdale, Ark.) ending with a 9-0 run. Lasell won the first set 25-6. 

Set Two  

The second set was more competitive early on with Salem State and Lasell evenly matched for the first portion of the set. However, Lasell pulled away, leaving the Vikings behind when they scored eight consecutive points to make it 17-11. Salem State fought back and narrowed the gap to just three points at 19-16, but Lasell sealed the set by going on a 6-2 run and won the second set 25-18. 

Set Three 

Salem State was determined not to be swept in three straight sets. Unfortunately, Lasell showed their strength once again starting the set with a 5-3 run, including four straight aces from Lopez. Coach McNulty called a timeout when Lasell had a 15-4 lead. Despite Salem State's best efforts to comeback, Lasell continued to dominate, with Lopez serving five consecutive points putting the Lasers was up 21-9. Eventually, the deficit was too large for Salem State to recover from, and Lasell won the set by a score of 25-11.

Salem State will know face Framingham State for a MASCAC match on Saturday at Twohig Gymnasium. The game will be held at noon and will also be Senior Day.
