Bears Double Up Vikings 6-3

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory over visiting Salem State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in the Little East, while the Vikings fall to 1-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Bridgewater State is 18-6 versus Salem State and 9-4 at home since the Bears joined the Little East in 2004.

The Bears swept the three doubles matches and split the six singles flights.

The Vikings picked up three points in singles play. Sophomore Abbie Laliberte (Gardner, Mass.) bounced back from a set down to post a 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 decision at number three, while senior Cassie Liu (Guangzhou, China) also battled back from a set down to earn a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 triumph at the fourth flight. Sophomore Erin Curristin (Dedham, Mass.) recorded a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) straight set victory at five.

In doubles play, sophomore Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and junior Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) teamed up for an 8-1 decision at number one, while senior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and junior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-1 win at the second flight. The Bears' sophomore tandem of Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) and Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) recorded a forfeit win at the third spot.

In singles competition, Lotti moved up four spots to the second flight and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 straight triumph. Ramer moved up one notch to first singles and earned a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory to secure the decisive fifth point and the match. Freshman Breanna Cole (East Sandwich, Mass.) recorded a forfeit win at number six to round out the scoring for the Bears.
