Vikings Win 6-3 Over Spartans

CASTLETON, Vt. - Salem State posted a 6-3 Little East victory over Castleton on Thursday afternoon as the Vikings won four-of-six singles matches to improve to 4-11 on the season and 3-5 in conference while the Spartans go to 5-9 and 1-7 in the LEC.

Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) / Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.) and Cassie Liu (Guangzhou, China ) / Miah Reyes (Raytown, Mo.) earned wins at first and third doubles for Salem State. Startseva / Floyd shuout Regina Marchese (Sunderland, Vt.) / Grace Sharkey (Purling, N.Y.) 8-0 at first doubles while Liu  / Reyes defeated Megan Brier (Barre, Vt.) / Kayla Morgan (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) 8-5.

Startseva spearhead four Vikings's singles wins, as the senior won her league-leading 14th match, 6-2, 6-1  at first singles over Marchese. Floyd beat Hunt 6-1, 6-0 at second singles. Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) picked up a victory at third singles, 6-3, 6-1 over Brier. Liu won the fourth point for Salem State in a third set tie-breaker, 6-4, 4-6, 1-over Matilda Gutke (Lidingo, Sweden) at sixth singles.
