Vikings Dominant in 9-0 Win Over Huskies

GORHAM, Maine -- Salem State posted a 9-0 shutout victory over Southern Maine on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Vikings' record to 3-9 and 2-3 in conference. The Huskies fall to 0-8 and 0-6 in the Little East Conference.

Salem State rolled through doubles play as the tandem of Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) / Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.) defeated Emma Nassif (Saco, Maine) / Breanna Miclette (Thomaston, Conn.) 8-1 at first doubles. Abbie Laliberte (Gardner, Mass.) / Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) picked up their second win of the year at second doubles, 8-0 over Rachel Grome (Franklin, Mass.) / Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass.) while Cassie Liu (Guangzhou, China ) / Miah Reyes (Raytown, Mo.) won 8-1 over Audrey Richdale (Belfast, Maine) /  Jordan Cote (Hope, Maine) at third doubles.

The Vikings swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Reyes earned her first win at fifth singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Richdale. Startseva and Floyd won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores at first and second singles respectively over Nassif and Brock. Laliberte blanked Grome 6-0, 6-0a t fourth singles while Tenney and Liu completed the sweep with wins at third and sixth singles.
