SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State hosted Emerson and St. Anselm in a tri-match at the Central Campus Tennis Courts on Sunday. The Lions defeated the Vikings 8-1 in the opening match before the Hawks handed the Vikings their second loss of the day 7-2.

Emersom 8 Salem State 1

Anastasia Startseva was the lone bright spot as she defeated Susie-Jane Wilson at first singles, 6-4, 7-5. Emerson swept all three doubles matches with Startseva / Alexandria Floyd losing 8-3 to Wilson / Maria Nikolishin at first doubles. Anne Woodbury / Fuschia Steward defeated Samantha Tenney / Abbie Laliberte 8-0 at second doubles while Ava Mirisola / Gabrielle McGovern beat Miah Reyes / Cassie Liu 8-1 at third doubles. Emerson won five-of-six singles matches in straight sets with Nikolishin posting a 6-1, 6-2 win over Floyd at second singles.

St. Anselm 2 Salem State 2 

Startseva continued her winning streak at first singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Anastasian Kapothanasis. Startseva has now won 11 straight first singles matches to open the season. Startseva / Alexandria Floyd posted the only other point for Salem State with an 8-2 win over Kapothanasis / Julia Svor at first doubles.
