Wheaton Cruises Past Salem State 8-1

SALEM, Mass. -- Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) picked up her fifth straight singles win, but Wheaton stormed to an 8-1 victory over the Vikings at the Central Campus Tennsi Courts on Wednesday. Salem State remains winless at 0-5 while the Lyons improve to 2-1.

Startseva defeated Miriam Galindo Cerrada (Madrid, Spain) 6-1, 4-6 and 10-8 at first singles to remain unbeaten in singles play this year. Alexis Acosta (Albuquerque, N.M.) scored a 6-1, 4-6 and 10-8 win over Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.) at second singles. The Lyons swept third through sixth singles with Katie Steinberg (Cumberland, Maine) and Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) posting shutouts at third and fourth singles.

Miah Reyes (Raytown, Mo.) lost 7-5, 6-0 to Zoe West (Flushing, N.Y.) at fifth singles while Jessica Love (Toronto, ON) won 1-6, 6-3 and 10-8 over Cassie Liu (Guangzhou, China).

Mueller / Galindo Cerrada opened play with an 8-2 win at first doubles over Startseva /Floyd. Acosta / Steinberg defeated Tenney / Laliberte 8-2 at second doubles and Zoe West (Flushing, N.Y.) / Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.) won 8-0 over Liu / Reyes at third doubles.
