Vikings Fall on Road, 6-1

DANBURY, Conn. – Salem State women's soccer traveled to Western Connecticut State University tonight to take on the Wolves in their final non-conference matchup of the season. The Wolves offense proved to be too much for the Vikings, as they were able to notch three goals in both halves to cruise to the 6-1 victory over the Vikings.

The Wolves did not need much time to establish a lead as Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) found the back of the net to give Western Connecticut the 1-0 lead just fifty-eight seconds into the game. From there, Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) would save seven shots before Imetovski found teammate, Sophia Onek (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), for the Wolves' second goal of the game with 27 minutes remaining in the first. Three minutes later, Hannah Magee tried to cut into the lead but the Wolves' goalkeeper got her hand on the ball to deny her chance. Western Connecticut would tack on one more goal in the forty-third minute to head into the break with the 3-0 advantage over the Vikings.

Imetovski notched her second helper nine minutes into the second half when she found Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.), who gave the Wolves a four-goal cushion. A minute later it looked as if the Wolves would build on their lead as they lined up for a penalty kick, but Pfefferle made the save to keep the deficit at four. Western Connecticut would score again in the sixty-seventh minute and eighty- second minute to take a sizeable 6-0 lead before Sydney Durkin (Dracut, Mass.) broke the Wolves' shutout with under a minute to play when she notched the Vikings' sole goal; making it a 6-1 game in favor of the home team as the horn sounded.
