SALEM, Mass. -- On Monday, April 3, Salem State women's lacrosse player Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass) was named MASCAC Player of the Week. This season, Sujko has 42 points (31 goals, 11 assists) and has been instrumental in leading a surging Vikings' team that has won four games in a row.

The senior, who ranks third in points and fourth in goals scored in the MASCAC, notched her 100th career point in a 21-4 win against MCLA on April 1.

Sujko was very excited when she learned that she was named MASCAC Player of the Week. "It is something that I worked hard for the last few seasons. To get that recognition it felt good," she said. Sujko added, "It is difficult to become women's lacrosse player of the week in this league. A lot of the teams in our conference are really good, and to be able to compete and succeed is a good thing," she said.

Sujko's focus on the field is to get better every game. "Each game I just want to play better than the game before. I motivate myself by not wanting to be disappointed by not playing well." Sujko gives her teammates a lot of credit for finding her at the right time. "I'm definitely someone that doesn't call for the ball. I kind of just run thru and hope my teammates see me when I get open."

Sujko has a lot of support from her teammates and coaches as well as her friends and family members. Balancing time between classes, practices and games can be challenging. "It's a lot, but definitely it is a lot harder in college, so you just have to time manage the best you can," she said.  On her personal goals for the rest of the season "I definitely want to play as well as I can because our upcoming conference games have the most importance." On her favorite pre-game meal, "sometimes Bagel World or oatmeal."

Sujkos's play will be pivotal over the Vikings' remaining regular season as the team looks to secure a high seed in the conference post-season tournament. Sujko and the Vikings will be in action on Thursday April 6 as they take on Nichols at 6 p.m. at Alumni Field as Salem State looks to extend their winning streak to five straight games.
