Deanna Bosco: The Artist

Deanna Bosco: The Artist

SALEM, Mass. – Deanna Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) is a four-year member and senior captain of the women's ice hockey team. As a student-athlete she has made a significant contribution to the program and athletic department, but her excellence and impact go far beyond the ice as she shares her passion for art; which brings her and those around her comfort and joy.

Bosco's journey as an artist began during her childhood when she used yoga and pottery as meditative practices, which became outlets for self-expression. This foundation has led her to discovering her passion for the arts and contributing to the well-being of others, motivating her to pursue an interest in art therapy.

Since arriving on campus Bosco has shared her passion and creativity within the Salem State community and surrounding community. In 2023, Bosco received the highest honor for the art department when she was the recipient of the 2023 Creativity Award in recognition of her dedication to her passion. Additionally, Bosco is a Harold T. and Alica McCarthy Scholarship Recipient from the Art and Design Department at Salem State. While being a role model within the Salem State community, Bosco has also worked as a mentor and art teacher at the Northshore Education Consortium where she collaborated with young adults with learning disabilities. She also spent the summer serving as the Camp Creighton Summer Art Director at the Boys and Girls Club of Lynn.

This past week Bosco has gotten to share, "The Art of Feeling: A Visual Journey" which is a collection of work that represents her culmination of undergraduate studies at Salem State. Bosco's artistic ability and willingness share this personal collection has landed her a spot as one of three students to host an honors exhibition. The Ellison Campus Center's Winfisky Gallery is presently hosting this exhibition with March 29th, this Friday, being the last day to view Bosco's inspirational collection.

Bosco, a fourth-year Art and Design major, will complete her undergraduate degree at Salem State University this May with a concentration in printmaking and a minor in psychology. After graduating she plans to pursue her love for the arts and passion for others by attending Lesley University and working towards her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Art therapy.
