Salem State Tops Fitchburg State 71-47

Fitchburg, Mass.  – Salem State (10-13, 5-5 MASCAC) topped Fitchburg State 71-47 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Wednesday evening at Parkinson Gymnasium.

The Vikings opened the game with eleven unanswered points. Sophomore Abuk Teng (Manchester, NH) had five points in the run. The Falcons (3-19, 1-8 MASCAC) battled back with back-to-back jumpers from sophomore Stephanie Hart (Ayer, Mass.) and junior Olivia Almeda (Wilmington, Mass.) to make it a 19-9 score. Teng finished the quarter with a layin to give the visitors a 23-9 lead after one.

Stephanie Hart knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer from newcomer Aliza Som (Lowell, Mass.) for the Green and Gold to cut the deficit to 30-16. The Vikings extended their margin (36-22) with a pair of layups from freshman Ernidia Goncalves (Everett, Mass.).

Salem State went on an 11-0 run, capped by four points from the charity stripe for Teng. A layup from sophomore Allison Prentis (Mansfield, Mass.) stopped the streak and a three-point shot from Almeda to end the quarter made the score 57-30.

The Falcons notched six straight on a pair of buckets from Delaney Brown (Billerica, Mass.) and a layup from Caileen Hurley (Whitman, Mass.) to open the fourth quarter. A trey from the corner from Goncalves pushed the Vikings' lead to 69-40. The Falcons finished with a layup from Juliana Davis (Templeton, Mass.).

For the Vikings, Goncalves had a game-high 23 points, and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Teng finished with 21 points. Stephanie Hart paced the Falcons with a game-high 17 rebounds and 8 points. Kathryn Hart added 8 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
