Rams Sweep Vikings in Non-Conference Action

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State softball had a quick turnaround as they hosted the Rams of Suffolk University this evening. Suffolk stole the first game after leaving three Vikings on base to seal the 3-1 victory before securing the sweep with a 9-6 win in the second game to drop the Vikings to 9-21 on the season.

GAME 1:

  • Ira Boci (Fairfield, Conn.) hit an RBI single to notch the first run of the game and give the Rams an early 1-0 tilt, but Dawn Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) would answer with an RBI single of her own to even the score at one apiece after the opening inning.
  • The next two innings would remain relatively quiet before Boci crossed the plate herself in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead (2-1) for her squad.
  • The Rams would add another run to their total before the Vikings were facing a two-run deficit to enter the home half of the seventh inning.
  • The Vikings found themselves with one down and the bases loaded looking for a chance to take the walk off victory, but the Rams halted any heroics as they closed out the game on a double-play to solidify the 3-1 victory.

GAME 2:

  • Suffolk started game two with four doubles in the opening inning to take a quick 4-0 lead, but the Vikings would begin to chip away when an Eisnor walk brought Sydney Rodriguez (Brighton, Colo.) home to bring the score to 4-1 as the game entered the second inning.
  • The Vikings were able to cut the lead in half (4-2) in the bottom of the third when Rodriguez crossed the plate for her second time of the game.
  • Both teams were able to add two more runs in the fourth inning to keep the margin at two before the Rams found their largest lead thusfar (8-4) after adding another two runs in the sixth.
  • Once again, the Vikings had to put their rally caps on as they entered the bottom of the seventh inning facing a five-run deficit. Stephanie Grassi (Cambridge, Mass.) and Hailey Ano (Pittsfield, Mass.) both had RBI singles for the Vikings, but after that the Rams would retire the last two batters to take the 9-6 victory and the non-conference sweep.
