Softball Adds One More Win on Final Day in Myrtle

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Salem State softball opened their final day in Myrtle with an offensive showing against Franciscan University, as they strung together 14 hit highlighted by a Mackenzie DeSantis (Ridge, N.Y.) grand slam, to take the 19-1 victory over the Barons. Later in the day, the Vikings would fall to Susquehanna University, 8-0, to leave Myrtle Beach with a 3-5 record.

Salem State vs. Franciscan University

  • The Vikings held a slim 2-1 lead heading into the third inning, before widening that margin after accumulating three hits and aggressive base running to add four more runs to their total to take a 6-1 lead over the Barons.
  • The Vikings stayed aggressive in the fourth inning, adding three runs to their tally thanks to three hits and three stolen bases, entering the fifth with a comfortable 9-1 lead.
  • To add fuel to the fire, DeSantis stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and launched one over the fence, bringing in four of the Vikings' six fifth-inning runs and propelling them to a commanding 19-1 victory over the Barons.

Salem State vs. Susquehanna University

  • Janae Santos (Cambridge, Mass.) notched the first hit of the game for the Vikings, but would be caught stealing second sending the game to the bottom half of the first where the Riverhawks found their first lead of the game after two hits spearheaded them to the same amount of runs (2-0).
  • The Riverhawks added three runs to their total in the second inning to give them a five-run cushion.
  • Rebecca Walker (Lynn, Mass.) tried to get the bats going for the Vikings after a single landed her on first, but shortly after she would be left on base sending the game into the bottom of the third where Susquehanna built on their lead (7-0).
  • The Vikings would go onto record two more hits in the closing innings, but the Riverhawks would hold them run less while adding two more to their total to take the 9-0 victory over the Vikings.
