Salem State Loses in Extra Innings

WORCESTER, Mass. -- #6 Salem State took #2 Worcester State to extra-innings, but the Lancers pushed home a run in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 1-0 win over the Vikings in the semifinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

Emily Bartlett threw a one-hitter, out-deuling Salem State starter Emily Carter, who allowed just three hits over the first seven innings. The game remained scoreless until Jackie Andry led-off the eighth with a double to center. A sacrifice bunt placed her on third and Brynna Meeker drove home Andry with the game-winning run.

Bartlett struckout 11 and walked three to earn the win. Carter kept the Vikings in the game, scattering five hits and two walks while allowing just one earned run.

Meeker finished 2-for-3 for the Lancers, the only player with a multi-hit game. Dawn Eisnor went 1-for-3, collecting the Vikings only hit on the day.
