Salem State Wins Twice on Senior Day

SALEM, Mass. -- Emily Carter (Warwick, R.I.), fired a two-hitter as Salem State blanked Mass. Maritime 3-0 in the first game of their scheduled Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader on Saturday at Alumni Field. The Vikings completed the sweep as Gracie Hogan (Blackstone, Mass.) shined on the mound in game two. Hogan allowed nine hits and just two runs with one strikeout as Salem State went on to win 10-2 in six innings. The Vikings are now 9-25 and 5-9 in the MASCAC. The Buccaneers slide to 7-27 and 0-14 in the conference.

Salem State honored seniors Sydney Chiasson (Hudson, Mass.), Gracie Hogan (Blackstone, Mass.), Hannah Magee (Salem, Mass.) and Abigail Johnson (Meredith, N.H.), who were playing in their final home game, for their commitment and dedication to the Salem State softball program.

Game One

Carter took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Maia Ostromecki (Barre, Mass.) reached base on a bunt single. Camryn Roberts-Capak (Marstons, Mass.) led-off the seventh with a single up the middle for Mass Maritime's only other hit. Carter threw a complete game, striking out six to win her fifth game of the season. Sicily DiDomenico (Haverhill, Mass.) took the loss for the Buccaneers despite not allowing an earned run, scattering six hits with six strikeouts.

The Vikings plated a run in the second, generated by Hogan who singled to begin the inning. Hogan stole second and after a wild pitch, came home on a passed ball. The Vikings added two insurance runs in the fifth. Sydney Chiasson (Hudson, Mass.) singled to right center. An error put runners on second and third. Dawn Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) then singled in a run with a hit to deep short, an errant throw allowed Rebeca Walker (Lynn, Mass.) to come home, giving Salem State a 3-0 lead.

Game Two

Eisnor helped Salem State to a 1-0 lead in the first on a base hit to left. A two-run single by Payton Jeffers (Holly Ridge, N.C.) and an RBI single by Walker gave the Vikings a 4-0 second inning lead.

Mass Maritime finally broke through with a run in the third on single to left by Roberts-Capak. However, Salem State answered with two runs in the third as Eisnor came home on an error and Hogan crossed the plate on a passed ball.

The Buccaneers loaded the bases in the fifth with one out as Olivia Camelo (Carver, Mass.), Abby Pope (Falmouth, Mass.) and Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass.) all reached base with singles. Pittsley drove in Camelo with one run, but Hogan ended the threat with a strikeout and groundout to second.

An error and RBI single by Chiasson made the score 8-2 in favor of the Vikings in the fifth. Salem State ended the contest, scoring twice in the sixth inning, as Hogan scored Walker from second and following a walk, Isabella Perrotti (Withrop, Mass.) brought home Hogan with the Vikings' 10th run on a single to right.

Pittsley took the loss, going, 5.1 innings and allowing 10 runs – eight earned on 15 hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. Carter threw a scoreless sixth for Salem State, recording two strikeouts.

Hogan finished 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Emily Henning (Grafton, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with a run while Chiasson and Walker combined for four hits, three runs and two RBI. Pittsley and Ostromecki each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Mass Maritime.
