FARMINGTON, Maine -- Salem State picked up their first doubleheader sweep on Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field, defeating UMaine Farmington 10-2 in five innings in game one and 6-2 in game two. The Vikings improve their record to 4-14 while the Beavers slide to 1-13. Emily Carter (Warwick, R.I.) picked up her first win of the season after allowing just two runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts in the first game. Gracie Hogan (Blackstone, Mass.) took the mound in game two and went six strong to notch her third win of the year. Hogan allowed two runs on six hits with a walk.

Game One

Salem State produced 15 hits, led by Mackenzie DeSantis (Ridge, N.Y.), who went 3-for-4, with a double and four RBI. Dawn Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) and Rebecca Walker (Lynn, Mass.) also had three-hit games while Sydney Chiasson (Hudson, Mass.) and Payton Jeffers (Holly Ridge, N.C.) collected two hits apiece.

Salem State quickly built a 4-0 advantage in the first as six of the first seven batters recorded a hit. Eisnor doubled in the first run before a DeSantis single and Isabella Perrotti (Winthrop, Mass.) sacrifice plated two more runs. Jeffers followed with an RBI double to score the fourth run of the inning. Starting pitcher Maddie Souza (Mashpee, Mass.) lasted just 0.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits to take the loss. Carleigh Schievink (Charlestown, Mass.), who replaced Souza, finished the game on the mound and was charged with six runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

UMaine Farmington's Christa Allen (Oxford Hills, Maine) made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the first with a two-run single to left. RBI singles by Eisnor and Jeffers pushed the score to 6-2 in the second. Walker and DeSantis each drove in a run in the third and DeSantis capped the scoring with a two-run double in the fifth, making the final 10-2.

Game Two

Once again the Vikings jumped on top early on a two-run home run by DeSantis in the first. Allen countered for the Beavers in the bottom of the inning with her own two-run bomb, tying the game at 2-2. Abigail Johnson (Meredith, N.H.) added an RBI single in the third to put Salem State back on top 3-2. Back-to-back errors by UMaine Farmington made it 5-2 in favor of the Vikings and DeSantis later added her third RBI of the game as part of a three-run fourth for the Vikings. Carter replaced Hogan in the seventh and retired the side in order to end the game.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Salem State. DeSantis finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Souza once again took the loss for the Beavers, giving up three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings of work. Schievink closed the game on the mound, allowing three runs - one earned on five hits with two strikeouts.
