Gordon Takes Two From Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- Gordon College defeated Salem State 8-5 and 14-3 (5 innings) in the Vikings' home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Fighting Scots go to 5-6-1 on the year while Salem State remains winless at 0-10.

Game 1

Karissa Hatchell went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Mara Little had three hits with a pair of runs in the game one victory. Salem State took an early 4-2 lead in the first as the first seven batters reached base to chase Gordon starting pitcher Sierra Ricci. Payton Jeffers and Isabella Perotti had RBI singles in the inning. Ricci allowed four runs - three earned on four hits with a walk and did not record an out. Little's sacrifice fly drew the Fighting Scots to within a run in the second, but a Mackenzie DeSantis double in the bottom of the second gave Salem State a 5-3 lead. Gordon scored three runs in the third and two in the fourth to reclaim the lead. Gabby Hunt had a two-run double in the third to put the Fighting Scots back on top for good. Ami Rivera and Hatchell added RBI singles in the fourth to close the scoring. Sydney Chiasson had a 2-for-4 day th the plate for Salem State with two runs scored. Emily Carter pitched a complete game, allowing seven earned runs on 13 hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Little picked up the win giving up just a run on six hits with three strikeouts in seven innings.  

   

Game 2

Isabella Rivera led Gordon in game two going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and Ami Rivera went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI as Gordon exploded for eight runs in the first inning to win 14-3 in five innings. Lily Rivera gave the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead with an RBI double. A two-run single by Hatchell made the score 8-0. DeSantis got two back with a two-run home run to left in the bottom of the inning and later added an RBI single in the third drawing the Vikings to within 11-3. Gordon tacked on two insurance runs in the fourth and Isabella Rivera addd her third RBI with a single to left in the fifth. Ricci allowed two earned runs with a walk and strikeout to earn the victory.  Carter took the loss, lasting an inning and allowing seven earned runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout. DeSantis finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBI for the Vikings.
