Beacons Eliminate Vikings

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, Mass. -- No. 5 seed UMass Boston defeated  No. 4 seed Salem State, 5-1 in the opening round of the Little East Men's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Manchester Tennis Club. Salem State, last season's Little East champions, end their season with a 6-7 record. The Beacons, who are now 5-5, will now face No. 1 seed Bridgewater State on Thursday.  

Cory Cherico / Quentin Wilkins improved to 4-2 on the season as the pair picked up the lone point for Salem State with an 8-3 win over Kevin Kubinec / Thomas Tran at No. 1 doubles. However, UMass Boston took 2-of-3 matches in doubles play as Rudraksha Trivedi / Guilherme Ozores beat Mark Wood / Michael Muttiah, 8-4 at No.2 doubles and Rezka Yupsi / Felix Nguyen took No. 3 doubles, 8-6 over Josh Gruber / Kevin Merino-Rivas

Yupsi beat Gruber 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Kubinec topped Cherico 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Trivedi clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Wilkins at No. 1 singles.
