Vikings Top Colonels
MILTON, Mass. -- Salem State concluded their regular season with an 8-1 victory over Curry on Friday afternoon. The Vikings finish the regular season 6-6 while the Colonels end 0-11. Salem State, who earned the fourth seed will face fifth seed UMass Boston in the opening round of the Little East Conference Playoffs on Tuesday.
Quentin Wilkins / Cory Cherico once again earned a win at first doubles, defeating Bryan Shields / Eric Flynn, 8-2. Mark Wood / Michael Muttiah rolled to an 8-0 victory at second doubles while Josh Gruber / Kevin Merino-Rivas shutout Zackery Aldrich / Naytik Vora, 8-0 for a 3-0 Vikings' lead before singles play.
Wilkins won at first singles, 7-5, 6-2 while Cherico earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Abend at second singles. Wood blanked Flynn, 6-0, 6-0 at third singles and Merino-Rivas won in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 at fourth singles. Gruber picked up a 6-0, 6-3 decision at fifth singles.
