Salem State Dumps UMass Boston for 5th Straight Win

BOSTON -- Salem State picked up an 8-1 win over UMass Boston to earn their fifth straight win on Monday in a Little East match at BC High School. The Vikings go to 5-5 and 3-2 in conference while the Beacons slip to 4-4 and 1-3 in the LEC. 

Salem State swept doubles play as Cory Cherico / Mark Wood and Kevin Merino-Rivas / Quentin Wilkins won 1st and 2nd doubles by identical 8-7 scores. Michael Muttiah / Josh Gruber kept the trend going, defeating David Flores / Shrenith Saravana Ra, 8-7 at 3rd doubles. 

The Vikings won 5-of-6 single matches as Wilkins earned a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win at 1st singles. Wood beat Thomas Tran, 4-6, 7-6, 11-9 at 3rd singles while Merino-Rivas defeated Nguyen, Felix, 6-1, 6-2 at 4th singles. Gruber took 5th singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Muttiah earned his second singles win of the season with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 decision over Flores.
