Vikings Claim Little East Regular Season Championship
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Salem State claimed their first Little East regular season championship since 2018 with a 6-3 victory over Bridgewater State on Wednesday at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. The Vikings have now won four LEC regular season titles since joining the league in 2004. Salem State improved to 8-0 overall and 5-1 in conference and will be the top seed in the upcoming Little East Men's Tennis Championship. The Bears slide to 4-7 and 3-2 in the LEC.
Andrew Muttiah ran his conference unbeaten streak to 17 matches with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kendan Ziegler at No.1 singles. Roni Bazile won his sixth straight match at No. 2 singles, defeating Sean Nutter, 6-1, 6-0. Quentin Wilkins stepped up to beat Charles Fiske, 6-0, 6-1 for a key point as the Vikings and Bears split singles play with each team winning three matches apiece.
Salem State played well to begin the match, storming out to a 3-0 lead, sweeping all three doubles matches to earn an early advantage. Muttiah/Wilkins won 8-5 over Ziegler / Fiske at No. 1 doubles. Bazile/Cory Cherico won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles against Nutter/Adam Beatrice and Parker Andreoli/Kevin Merino-Rivas beat Matthew Krampf/Charles Malinowski, 8-5 at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.
