Salem State Beats Wentworth 7-2

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State, led by Andrew Muttiah at No. 1 singles, took 5-of-6 six singles matches to earn a 7-2 win over Wentworth on Friday afternoon at The Central Campus Tennis Courts. The victory ties Muttiah with Chen Chen for 7th place on the all-time career win list with 34. The Vikings win their only match of the fall while the Leopards go to 1-1.

Muttiah defeated Daniel Gallegos at the top spot, 6-1, 6-1. Pranav Marwaha earned Wentworth's lone point with a No. 2 singles win over Quentin Wilkins, 6-4, 6-4. The Vikings swept the next four flights in straight sets with Roni Bazile (No.3), Cory Cherico (No. 4), Giacomo Graziani (No. 5) and Parker Andreoli (No. 6) all winning easily.  

Muttiah / Wilkins pulled out an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Gallegos / Eric Doraci, winning a tie-breaker set 7-5.  Bazile / Cherico picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-4 over Marwaha / Thomas Kot. Owen Conlon / James Weete triumphed at No. 3 doubles for Wentworth over Andreoli / Kevin Merino-Rivas, 8-7 with the tie-breaker going to the Leopards, 7-5.
