Muttiah Earns Little East Player of the Year, Four Vikings Named All-Conference

SALEM, Mass. -- Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) was named the Little East Conference Player of the Year in an announcement by the Little East on Friday. Muttiah earns his second career Player of the Year award, having previously won the conference honor in 2018. Muttiah and junior Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) were named first-team doubles while Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) earned second team all-conference at second singles and second team all-conference doubles with teammate Parker Andreoli (Windham, N.H.).  

Muttiah went undefeated (6-0) in conference play, leading the Vikings to the LEC finals for the third straight year. The graduate-student has lost just one conference first singles match in three seasons (16-1) and is 31-10 overall for his career. He has won 12 straight conference matches, including playoffs dating back to 2019. He lost just one set to a conference opponent, and did not allow a point 10 times, including four straight shutouts. Muttiah paired with Cherico at first doubles, producing a a 9-3 record, including a 4-2 regular season conference mark at first doubles and a 3-0 record at second doubles.

Bazile earns his second all-conference selection at second singles, having earned first-team honors in 2019. Bazlie went 10-3, which included a six-match winning streak, and finished with a 5-1 LEC record. Bazile, who earned second team doubles for the second time, and Andreoli posted a 4-1 regular season record at second doubles.
