Beacons Defeat Vikings For Little East Championship

DORCHESTER, Mass. - The top-seeded UMass Boston blanked second-seeded Salem State to win the 2022 Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Championship Tournament Saturday night at the Sportsmen's Tennis Center. Senior Nandish Shah was named the 2022 LEC Championship's Most Outstanding Player.
 
Juniors Pierre-Alexandre Fumat and Rez Yuspi got the Beacons (12-5) on the board with an 8-1 at third doubles over Parker Andreoli and Kevin Merino-Rivas, and the UMass Boston lead grew to 2-0 following an 8-3 win for senior Alexander Comerchero and freshman Rudraksh Trivedi at second doubles over the Vikings' (8-6) Cory Cherico and Andrew Muttiah.  
 
Senior Miguel Beltran and Shah completed the Beacons' sweep of the doubles points with an 8-1 first doubles decision over Roni Bazile and Grant Bellino.
 
UMass Boston moved to within one point of the LEC title with Comerchero's 6-0 ,6-1 fourth singles victory over Cherico. Yuspi then clinched the league championship for the Beacons with his 6-0, 6-1 sixth singles triumph over Adam Stanneck.
