Chargers Edge Vikings 5-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. --  Colby-Sawyer and Salem State split six singles matches, but the Chargers took two-of-three doubles matches to prevail 5-4 in a hard fought match at Kelsey Courts on Sunday. The win improves Colby Sawyer's record to 5-7. The Vikings now stand at 1-3.

Julius Lowman (Bavaria, Germany) / Aidan Jensen (Essex, Vt.) and Jan Ullmann (Schriesheim, Baden-Wuerrttemberg, Germany) / John Turner (Perry, Maine) earned wins at first and second doubles, defeating Grant Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) / Giacomo Graziani (East Boston, Mass.), 8-2 and Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) / Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) 8-7 in a tie-breaker set. Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) / Parker Andreoli (Windham, N.H.) won the lone doubles match for Salem State, 8-1 over Alexander Edelmann and senior Charlie Graffius (Portland, Maine).

Cherico, Graziani and Adam Stanneck (Washington, N.J.) won points at third through sixth singles for the Vikings in straight sets. Ullmann and Jensen topped Bellino and Bazile at second and third singles, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-4. Lowman clinched the match with a three-set victory over Muttiah at first singles, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-0.
