Lancers, Vikings Tie 3-3

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State and Worcester State battled to a hard-fought 3-3 tie on Saturday in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Alumni Field. Luke-Mark Anu's (Salem, Mass.) penalty-kick in the 71st minute tied the game for the Lancers, ending the Vikings' three-game win streak. Worcester State is now 6-2-5 and 3-0-2 in conference. Salem State is now 8-4-2 and 3-1-1 in the MASCAC. 

Worcester State struck first with back-to-back goals early in the first half. Mal Hawkins (Los Angles, Calif.) headed in a direct kick from Manny Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) before Ramirez found Ethan Escobar (Paxton, Mass.) with the Lancers' second goal. Salem State battled back as Brendan Davis (Dracut, Mass.) cut into the lead with his sixth goal of the year in the 16th minute. Worcester State carried a one-goal advantage into halftime despite being outshot 11-4 by the Vikings.

Patrick Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) tied the game for Salem State in the 43rd minute, putting in a corner kick from Dylan Senra (Dartmouth, Mass.). Walaeddine Hounane (Salem, N.H.) scored Salem State's third unanswered goal in the 69th minute as Eric Leuchner (Groton, Conn.) created a turnover before finding Hounane, who gave the Vikings their first lead of the game.

However, Worcester State took advantage of a foul call on Salem State, setting up Anu with the game-tying score.

Matt Hauntsman (Milford, N.H.) made three saves in net for the Vikings while Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) was credited with 12 stops for the Lancers, who were outshot 21-7 for the game and did not attempt a corner kick (8-0).
