Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year Prince, Defensive Player of the Year Filetti Lead Six All-MASCAC Selections For Vikings

SALEM, Mass. -- Freshman Kendy Prince (Medford, Mass.) was named the 2021 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year and Patrick Filetti (Newburyport,  Mass.) picked up his second MASCAC Player of the Year award, highlighting six first team all-conference selections by the league's regular and post-season champions.

Additionally, head coach Matt Correia was named Champion's Choice Coach of the Year for the third time in five seaons after leading Salem State to an undefeated conference regular season (7-0) and 11-6 overall record, while earning his second post-season championship.

Prince and Filetti headline six Vikings' players who were named to the all-conference first team, tying the school record for most first team selections with the 2017 squad. Midfielders Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.), Aaron O'Toole (Quincy, Mass.), defenseman Damon Deocleciano (Lowell, Mass.) and keeper Matt Hauntsman (Milford, N.H.) join Prince and Filetti on the MASCAC First Team.

Prince is the second Salem State player in the last five years to sweep player and rookie of the year honors, sharing the feat with Mayele Malango (2017). The freshman produced one of the best rookie seasons in Salem State history after leading the league with 20 goals scored (top-10 nationally) and 44 points, including going 4-for-4 on penalty kicks with a league-best seven game-winning goals, two-short of the school's all-time mark set by Alvaro Ibanez in 1987. His 20 goals are fourth most in a season in school history and are the most by a freshman since Norman James tallied 25 in 1993. Prince's 44 points rank fourth all-time in a season and are the second most by a freshman to James' sixty points in 1993.

Filetti earns his second first-team nomination and second consecutive defensive player of the year award as the senior started every game for the Vikings, leading a unit that did not allow a goal to the opposition in seven conference games. Filetti, was instrumental in allowing just 3.42 shots per game by MASCAC opponents this year.

Amaral is a three-time all-conference selection, including a two-time first team member. A catalyst on offense, Amaral netted four goals to go with six assists for 14 points as the senior fulfilled expectations as an on-field leader. O'Toole added another scoring presence for Salem State, scoring 17 points (5g, 7a) in a highly successful first season. His seven assists tied for the league lead.

Deocleciano posted seven points (2g, 3a) for the conference champions, and with Filetti anchored the top defensive unit in the MASCAC. Hauntsman was named the league's best keeper, posting a conference-best 1.02 goals against average and .812 save percentage, including zero goals allowed in seven conference games. The junior's eight shutouts tied for seventh most in a season in school history and are the most since Pawel Brzyczy also recorded eight in 2008.
