Vikings Topple Fighting Tigers 20-14

SALEM, Mass.Lake Fleming (Gloucester, Mass.) and Patrick Guinee (Gloucester, Mass.) each scored six goals while Guinee added four assists as Salem State defeated SUNY-Cobleskill 20-14 on Saturday at Alumni Field. The Vikings even their record at 6-6 while the Fighting Tigers slide to 3-6.

Drew Worthley (Saugus, Mass.) – 3 goals, 1 assist, Kevin Albert (Canton, Mass.) – 3 goals, Aidan Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) – 1 goal, Sam Cioffi (Marblehead, Mass.) – 1 goal, 1 assist all scored for Salem State.

Sean D'Amaro (Northport, N.Y.) led SUNY-Cobleskill with a game-high seven goals. Jake Giess (Victor, N.Y.) – 3 goals, 1 assist, Gregory Neumann (Accord, N.Y.) – 3 goals, 1 assist, Aaron Brooks (Geneva, N.Y.) – 1 goal, 1 assist netted scored for the Fighting Tigers.

Albert and Fleming opened the scoring for Salem state before Neumann cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 9:19 mark. A goal from Fleming and two by Guinee closed the period with the Vikings leading 5-1. Hollingsworth made it 6-1 in favor of Salem State to start the second period, and the two teams traded three goals apiece, making the halftime score 9-4 in favor of Salem State.

Six different goal scorers to begin the third gave Salem State a 15-4 advantage. SUNY-Cobleskill began to cut into the deficit, scoring five straight goals, including four by D'Amaro to draw to within 15-9 at the 3:59 of the third. Fleming answered for the Vikings, giving the home team a 16-9 lead at the end of three.

The Fighting Tigers got as close as six goals twice in the fourth period, but each time Salem State answered with Guinee scoring three goals in the period, the last one giving Salem State a 20-12 lead. D'Amaro and Giess added late scores for the Fighting Tigers as the game ended with the Vikings winning by a 20-14 margin.

Zach Royal (Abington, Mass.) made 18 saves in the win. John Williams (Smyrna, Del.) stopped 15 shots for SUNY-Cobleskill.
