Plymouth State Storms Past Salem State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. –  Crosby Fay scored seven goals and added an assist as Plymouth State outscored the Vikings 24-8 in a Little East Conference (LEC) men's lacrosse match at Panther Field on Tuesday night. Patrick Guinee led the Vikings' offense with three goals and an assist. The Panthers improve to 4-8 and 1-3 in conference. Salem State is now 5-6 and 0-4 in conference.

The Vikings' Kevin Albert and Sam Cioffi each notched two goals apiece while Dakota Girard added a solo goal. Matt Miner added five goals and an assist while Riley Roy contributed four markers and an assist for Plymouth State.

Cioffi got Salem State on the board first after 1:24 of play, but senior Roy notched the equalizer just 28 seconds later.

Salem State went up again at the 12:04 mark after a Guinee goal, but Fay tallied his first of the day ahead of back-to-back goals by freshman Matt Miner. The teams traded scores with Fay capping the first quarter with his third of the night for a 7-4 lead after one. Mike Fleury scored twice as PSU went up 10-4 midway through the second.

Salem State briefly cut the deficit to five after Guinee's second goal, but the Panthers closed the half with three consecutive scores to push the lead to 13-5 at the half.

Plymouth State put the game away in the third quarter, pouring in another seven goals while holding the Vikings scoreless in the frame to lead 20-5 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Miner found the back of the cage for the fifth time and Joe O'Reilly (Hollis, N.H.), Liam Brown (Center Harbor, N.H.) and senior Cam O'Shaughnessy (Milford, N.H.) each added tallies in the final frame. Guinee recorded his third goal with 2:04 left to make the final 24-8.

Starting goalie Jessy Hirwa made five saves to earn the win. Owen McNichols (3 saves) and Ian Gibbons (2 saves) split time on the second half for the Panthers. Zach Royal made 12 saves in net for the Vikings.
