UMass Boston Wins 30-9 Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Zach Mann (South Hadley, Mass.) scored six goals and Michael Claflin (Newton, Mass.) added five goals and three assists as UMass Boston posted a 30-9 victory over Salem State on Saturday evening at Alumni Field. The Beacons go to 8-1 and 2-0 in the Little East. The Vikings slip to 5-4 and 0-2 in the league.

Christian Burke (Danvers, Mass.) –  4 goals, Patrick Guinee (Gloucester, Mass.) – 2 goals, 5 assists, Drew Worthley (Saugus, Mass.) – 1 goal, Dakota Girard (Gloucester, Mass.) – 1 goal, Sam Cioffi (Marblehead, Mass.) – 1 goal.

Clafin scored just 12 seconds into the game before Girard tied it for the Vikings. UMass Boston then went on a 12-0 run with four goals by Mann and three from Clafin to take a 13-1 lead. Burke closed the quarter with a goal for Salem State. The Beacons added seven goals in the second quarter with Wolff tallying two. Four more scores by UMass Boston increased the lead to 24-2 in the third quarter, Guinee and Worthley went back-to-back for the Vikings, but three goals to end the period gave the Beacons a 27-4 advantage.

Burke netted three goals in the final period for Salem State as the Vikings outscored UMass Boston 5-3, making the final 30-9 in favor of the Beacons.

Christian Meinhold (Boxborough, Mass.) made 10 saves in the win before giving way to Otto Kirleis (Boston, Mass.) at halftime. Kirleis stopped three shots for the Beacons. Zach Royal (Abington, Mass.) Zach Royal (Abington, Mass.) made 16 saves for the Vikings, who were outshot 73-37.
