Wildcats Triumph 23-7 Over Vikings

SALEM, Mass. -- Joe McIntyre (Ballston Lake, N.Y.)  and Chris Calisto (Jericho, N.Y.) combined for 12 goals and three assists as Johnson & Wales defeated Salem State in convincing fashion, 23-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Wildcats go to 3-2 on the season while the Vikings now stand at 3-2.

Donny McInnis (North  Haven, Conn.) – 4 goals, Jackson Vecchio (Long Island, N.Y.) – 2 goals,  Jake Fowler (Beverly, Mass.) – 1 goal, Mike Muench (Maplewood, N.J.) – 1 goal, 1 assist, Mike Catuosco (Commack, N.Y.) – 1 goal, 1 assist, Noah Fye (Concord, N.H.) – 1 goal, Michael Mongelli (Lincoln, R.I.) – 1 goal, all scored for Johnson & Wales

Christian Burke (Danvers, Mass.) – 3 goals, Kevin Albert (Canton, Mass.) – 3 goals, and Lake Fleming (Gloucester, Mass.) added scores for Salem State.

Johnson & Wales scored five unanswered goals to open the game before Burke broke the string with a score for Salem State at the 5:05 mark. Three more goals, including two from McInnis gave the Wildcats a commanding 8-2 lead after the first. Seven straight goals by Johnson & Wales, including a pair each from McIntyre and Calisto pushed the Wildcats in front, 15-2 at halftime. Johnson and Wales outshot Salem State 36-16 in the first half.

The lead grew to 15 points in the third after goals by McInnis and McIntyre. Burke and Albert scored back-to-back goals for the Vikings, but Johnson & wales answered with three consecutive goals to end the period.

Each team netted three goals in the final period to close the game, making the final 23-7.

Trent Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) made 13 saves in the win while Zach Royal (Abington,  Mass.) was credited with 14 stops for Salem State.
