Salem State Doubles Up Regis

WESTON, Mass. -- Sam Cioffi (Marblehead, Mass.) scored six goals and Patrick Guinee (Gloucester, Mass.) added four as Salem State defeated Regis 14-7 on Saturday at Regis Stadium. The Vikngs improve to 3-1 while the Pride dip to 1-2. 

Salem State scored the first eight goals of the match, led by Guinee and Cioffi with three goals apiece. Richardson broke through for the Pride with 1:15 remaining in the second quarter on an unassisted tally, and Blake Hiltz (Tewksbury, Mass.) followed 38 seconds later with his own unassisted goal to cut the Regis deficit to six at 8-2 heading into halftime.  

Drew Worthley (Saugus, Mass.) scored for the Vikings just over one minute into the third quarter, but Robby Fuller (Wolfeboro, N.H.) earned his first career goal to keep the Pride close. After Cioffi and Guinee each earned their fourth goals of the match, Richardson rattled off three unanswered goals to end the third quarter with Salem State still ahead, 11-6.  

Cioffi scored two times in the fourth quarter to finish with a match-high six goals, while Guinee led everyone with eight ground balls. The Viking defense was led by Jonah Seiger (Belmont, Mass.) with five ground balls and five caused turnovers, while goalie Zach Royal (Abington, Mass.) was credited with six saves as he picked up the victory. 

Each team won 12 of the 24 faceoffs during the afternoon. Salem State enjoyed a significant advantage in total shots, 56-27, and in ground balls, 42-28.

Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.) led the Pride with four goals and one assist on a goal by Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), while Jack Crater (Welcome, N.C.) picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers on defense. Goalie Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) kept Regis as close as possible, making 19 saves during the contest.
