Joe Smith Signs Contract With The Columbus River Dragons

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State University men's ice hockey player Joseph Smith (Holbrook, Mass.) has played in his first professional games for the Columbus River Dragons of the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL). The assistant captain for the Vikings compiled a point per game in his senior campaign, setting a career-high in both goals (15) and assists (10) for 25 total points. Smith helped lead the #6 seed Vikings to a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship game scoring two-goals in a MASCAC semifinal contest including the game winning goal to lift the Vikings over #5 seed Westfield State.

Following his professional debut on March 20th, Smith tallied two goals in his second professional appearance earning 2nd star of the game in a 4-1 win over the Carolina Thunderbirds. Smith joins former Vikings Mike Chen '17 and Valtteri Tanninen in the professional ranks this season.
